Strings and solos to light up The Beacon with Didcot Concert Orchestra

Classical music fans can enjoy an afternoon of inspiring performances as the Didcot Concert Orchestra plays at The Beacon in Wantage this Sunday.

Among an array of classical music pieces – some famous, some new – violin soloist and acclaimed recording artist Clare Howick will perform the delightful Violin Concerto by Glazunov. She will also perform the very rarely heard Nachtstück by Reznicek.

Designed to create an enchanting atmosphere, the performance features only four horns, a harp and strings to accompany the soloist.

The Didcot Concert Orchestra’s event, which has been arranged by Cornerstone Arts Centre, will be held at The Beacon while Cornerstone is temporarily closed for urgent maintenance work to be carried out.

Cllr Maggie Filipova-Rivers, Cabinet member for community wellbeing at South Oxfordshire District Council, which runs Cornerstone, says: “It’s set to be a wonderful afternoon that we hope will enthral and entertain people this Sunday.

“We’re so glad we can hold the event at The Beacon and are grateful for the team’s help in ensuring this musical event can go ahead. Experiencing the arts and culture is fantastic for local communities’ sense of fun and wellbeing.”

The performance starts at 4:30pm Sunday 6 February at The Beacon in Wantage.
