Photos show impact of new paths in Wallingford cemetery
New paths have transformed Wallingford Cemetery.
South Oxfordshire District Council secured funding to upgrade the paths at the cemetery, which had deteriorated and left them with several major potholes.
The work took place at the beginning of the year and was completed in just 2.5 weeks, ahead of the four-week schedule.
Photos show the dramatic difference the new paths have made and will help those using or visiting the cemetery.

Councillor Sam James-Lawrie, South Oxfordshire District Council Cabinet Member for Environment, said: “The photos really show how much of an improvement has been made in Wallingford Cemetery.
“The water-filled potholes and muddy paths have been revitalised and are now smooth and puddle-free.
“Not only do they look much better, they provide a much better surface for users, particularly the road outside the cemetery.”
Among the work carried out was:
- Reconstruction of the access road, including a new kerb to provide support and the installation of a French drain to improve road drainage.
- Full resurfacing of the road from the junction with Castle Street to The footpath access to Castle Meadows.
- Reconstruction of the internal cemetery pathways, and dressing with decorative stone.
Contractors Hazell and Jefferies used recycled materials taken from other construction projects in the French drain and reconstruction of internal cemetery paths, as part of the council’s commitment on the climate emergency.
