Cornerstone Arts Centre presents a jam-packed summer programme
This summer, Cornerstone Arts Centre in Didcot presents a jam-packed line up of live shows and activities for all to enjoy.
From science extravaganzas to mesmerising magical illusions, Pride celebrations to live blues music – there’s something for everyone in this new season.
Cllr Maggie Filipova-Rivers, Cabinet member for community wellbeing at South Oxfordshire District Council, which runs Cornerstone Arts Centre, says: “We have a fantastic line up of shows, classes and art exhibitions this summer, ready to entertain and boost the wellbeing of all who come to visit. Our new programme offers a huge choice, so do come along, everyone is welcome.”
To entertain families, Woodland Tales with Granddad, a puppet show with an important message about the environment, kicks off the summer season on 3 April. Then expect explosive thrills and chemical spills as ‘Morgan & West: Unbelievable Science’ heads to Cornerstone on 14 April.
Magical Bones: Black Magic is also expected to captivate audiences as the Britain’s Got Talent finalist takes to the stage in April. The critically acclaimed magician combines intricate sleight of hand with mesmerising illusions.
Blues music fans can enjoy an evening with acclaimed songwriter and guitarist Mark Harrison and his band as they head to Cornerstone’s stage. The band, along with well-known national radio and TV broadcaster David Freeman, present an uplifting and informative evening of modern and classic blues songs and stories.
This June Cornerstone will be celebrating Pride with a variety of activities and live shows. Artist Liam Hart will be creating Cornerstone’s very own giant Pride flag in a free drop-in art workshop. Anyone can take part and contribute to the LGBTQ+ Pride and inclusion flag which will be displayed in the building. OxPHWOARd Drag Cabaret will also be celebrating as part of the Pride events too.
Activities will also take place at the café Nourish and gallery this summer. Visitors can find inspiration in the gallery exhibition as they celebrate Artweek’s 40th anniversary. From 3 May to 1 June, the Oxfordshire Artweeks: Inspired By Nature exhibition will be on display, focusing on two artists’ responses to their love of nature and the local landscape.
For those looking to try something new, summer classes are now on sale too. From crafts and painting to street dance and youth theatre there is something for children of all abilities and ages to enjoy. Children can explore their creativity in Cornerstone’s Mess Makers classes. Or for adults looking to learn something new they can try An Introduction to Drawing.
